The annual Labour Day demonstrations take place in Paris on Thursday, May 1.
French trade unions have organised the joint rally calling for peace, social justice, the repeal of pension reforms, increased wages and benefits, and the strengthening of public services.
Last year’s May Day rallies saw clashes between police and protesters, leading to dozens of arrests and injuries.
Labour Day demonstrations are held annually throughout the world, coinciding with International Workers' Day. The protests call for more workers' rights, increased pay and better conditions.
