President Cyril Ramaphosa delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Cape Town’s City Hall on Thursday, February 6.
The president is expected to emphasise unity and outline his plan for the country’s future. He is also set to address the South African military presence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the current state of the South African economy, as well as legislative progress made this year, among other matters.
This SONA is the first under the seventh administration’s Government of National Unity, and it comes amid a mixture of domestic and global challenges, particularly the conflict in DRC.
