US First Lady Melania Trump hosts representatives from Russia and Ukraine at the White House in Washington DC, on Thursday November 5, to discuss the recent humanitarian mission in Kherson.
The meeting follows a six-day ceasefire in the Russian-held town of Oleshky, brokered with the involvement of the First Lady. During the temporary truce, urgently needed food, clean water and medical supplies were delivered to the heavily damaged town, while nearly 800 civilians, many of them elderly and vulnerable, were evacuated.
The humanitarian effort also received support from Pope Leo XIV, who personally appealed for assistance to civilians trapped in the conflict zone.
