
Fans arrive at the Estadio Mas Monumental in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, October 6, ahead of Lionel Messi's final appearance for Argentina, taking on Benin in a farewell friendly.
The 39-year-old brings an end to an international career spanning more than two decades, having made his senior debut in 2005. Messi is Argentina's all-time leading scorer and record appearance holder, with 125 goals in 207 matches ahead of his farewell game.
As captain, Messi led Argentina to a 2022 FIFA World Cup, Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024, and the 2022 Finalissima. He also won the Under-20 World Cup in 2005 and Olympic gold in 2008.
The sold-out farewell, dubbed 'The Last Tango', is also set to bring together members of Argentina's 2022 World Cup-winning squad as the country celebrates the end of Messi's international career.
