Students and supporters take to the streets of Paris on Tuesday, October 6, as nationwide protests over the state of France's education system continue.
The latest uprising began on September 17 at Saint-Exupéry high school southeast of Paris, where a staff walkout saw students join the demo and blockade the institution - over teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms and crumbling buildings.
It quickly spread across France, with widespread school closures, fiery clashes with riot police and thousands of arrests. The Macron government blamed 'outside troublemakers' while opposition parties accused the government of trying to dodge responsibility.
