Housing protesters march from their encampment in Madrid's Puerta del Sol towards the Spanish Congress on Friday, October 2, as lawmakers vote on government measures aimed at addressing the country's housing crisis.
It comes amid demonstrations across the country, fuelled by the eviction scandal surrounding 87-year-old Maricarmen Abascal - who was told to leave the flat where she lived for more than 70 years. She was subsequently told she could return to her home.
Demonstrators are expected to gather outside Congress during the vote, calling for stronger measures including lower rents, restrictions on evictions and action against large property investment funds.
The protest comes as parliament holds an extraordinary session to vote on housing measures covering rental contracts and protections for tenants.
