
'Kazakh Kuresi', a traditional type of Kazakh wrestling takes place at the World Nomad Games in Cholpon Ata on Friday, September 4.
The bout is held in a standing position, and grabbing the opponent’s legs with the hands is not allowed. Ground wrestling is prohibited.
Kazakh Kuresi is a unique national wrestling style, passed down from generation to generation as part of the cultural heritage of the Kazakh people. It is also recognised as an official national sport.
Among the participating countries are Pakistan, Mongolia, India, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and others.
The World Nomad Games is an international platform that brings together different cultures, traditions, values and sporting disciplines. They were first held in 2014.
The iconic, international cultural and sports event dedicated to nomadic peoples is held from August 31 to September 6.
