NGOs provide food to migrants amid heightened security in Ceuta

Live from El Trampolin beach in Ceuta on Saturday, August 15, as NGOs distribute food to migrants living on the streets of the Spanish enclave.

The aid effort comes as Spain keeps security on high alert following social media calls for a possible mass crossing from Morocco. Additional police and Guardia Civil officers have been deployed along the border and coastline.

The deployment follows the July 30-31 border crisis, when more than 72,000 migrants entered Ceuta, according to Spanish government estimates, many by swimming around the Tarajal breakwater. At least 96 people died.

Moroccan authorities have also reinforced security around Fnideq to prevent migrants from reaching the border.
