Live from Lima on Monday, April 13, as polling stations reopen for a second day of voting after delays in delivering electoral materials disrupted Sunday’s general election.
Logistical failures prevented the setup of hundreds of voting tables, leaving about 63,000 voters unable to cast ballots in districts including San Juan de Miraflores, Lurin and Pachacamac.
The move is supported by leading candidates Keiko Fujimori of Fuerza Popular and Rafael Lopez Aliaga of Renovacion Popular, who the National Office of Electoral Processes says are among the frontrunners.
More than 25 million Peruvians are eligible to vote in a fragmented race with 35 presidential tickets. Voters elect 208 positions, including the president, two vice presidents, 60 senators, 130 deputies and 15 Andean parliamentarians. If no candidate wins over 50 percent, a runoff is held in June.
