The UN Security Council holds an emergency briefing on the situation in Lebanon, requested by France and supported by Bahrain, Denmark, Greece, Latvia and the United Kingdom, in New York City on Wednesday, March 11.
The escalation follows cross-border strikes between Israel and Hezbollah over the past week and a half.
Hezbollah fired projectiles towards Israel after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Israel then carried out large-scale airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon.
Israeli officials stated the campaign will continue until the threat posed by Hezbollah is 'eliminated'. Hezbollah officials say the group will continue fighting Israel 'whatever the cost'.
Lebanese health authorities reported 570 dead and 1,444 wounded in Israeli strikes.
