José Antonio Kast is sworn in as the next president of Chile on Wednesday, March 11, during a handover ceremony at the National Congress in Valparaíso.

It marks the formal transfer of power following the recent election. Kast won in December 2025 after securing around 58 per cent of the vote in a runoff with left-wing candidate Jeannette Jara.

The inauguration takes place before lawmakers, officials and international delegations at the seat of Congress on Chile’s Pacific coast.
