Pope Leo XIV presides over Holy Mass on the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God in the Octave of Christmas, on the 59th World Day of Peace, on Thursday, January 1.
After Mass, the pontiff will deliver his Angelus address.
Pope Paul VI designated January 1 as World Day of Peace in 1968. He also restored the ancient celebration of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God to the same date as part of the post-Vatican II liturgical reforms in 1969.
