Live from Sharm El Sheikh on Monday, October 13, as Egypt hosts a high-level peace summit aimed at ending the Gaza war. The summit is co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had been invited by President Trump, but would not be able to attend due to the timing coinciding with the start of a holiday. His remarks came after the Egyptian presidency announced that he would attend the summit alongside Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
More than 20 world leaders are expected to attend, including French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Israel will not be participating in the summit. It comes following the return of all remaining Hamas hostages and the release of Palestinian prisoners under the terms of the first phase of the Gaza deal agreed last week.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, the summit seeks to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, strengthen efforts toward peace and stability in the Middle East, and usher in a new era of regional security.
