The emergency Arab-Islamic summit opens in Doha on Monday, September 15, as leaders gather to discuss Israel's airstrikes on the Qatari capital.
Israel struck Hamas leaders in Doha on September 9, killing five members including Humam al-Hayya, son of exiled chief Khalil al-Hayya, along with a Qatari security officer. Hamas said its senior negotiators were not hit.
Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani condemned the strike as 'state terror' and a setback for hostage talks. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu told Qatar to 'expel' Hamas 'or bring them to justice', saying those condemning his country "should be ashamed of themselves".
The strike, the first on Qatari soil, drew criticism from across the Arab world and beyond. Qatar has long served as a mediator for indirect talks between Israel and Hamas.
