A solemn ceremony to open the active phase of the Unbreakable Brotherhood 2024 command post exercises involving the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces was held in the Almaty region on Tuesday.
The footage shows servicemen holding flags to the national anthems of the participating countries and marching.
"The world situation remains turbulent and we must be prepared for various challenges and threats that affect not only our countries but also the entire world community," said Sultan Kamaletdinov, First Deputy Minister of Defence, Chief of General Staff of Kazakh Armed Forces.
CSTO Deputy Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov noted the countries were conducting drills 'in a complex international situation'.
"The region's vast logistical capabilities combined with its mineral resources, create the conditions for constant superpower rivalry and political instability, including the spread of radical extremism and a growing territorial threat," he added.
The exercise involves national contingents of the peacekeeping forces of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, as well as the operational groups of the CSTO Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat. In total, the exercise involves more than 2,000 troops, 500 units of armoured and motorised vehicles, Mi-17 and Mi-35 helicopters, Il-76 and C-295 aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
