Russian cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin captured footage of Hurricane Milton from the International Space Station (ISS), which was released on Friday.

"The time-lapse video of cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin shows Hurricane Milton, which recently hit the west coast of the US state of Florida, bringing tornadoes and heavy rains with flooding," Roscosmos wrote via its Telegram channel.

Hurricane Milton hit the coast of Florida as a Category 3 storm near the Siesta Key area at around 20:30 local time (1:30 GMT) on Wednesday and was downgraded to a Category 1 storm as it moved across the state towards the Atlantic.

US President Joe Biden declared a state emergency and ordered federal assistance for local authorities in Florida on Monday. However, after the storm hit, Governor Ron DeSantis admitted it wasn't the 'worst-case scenario'.

At least 12 people were killed and more than 2.6 million residents were left without electricity, according to media reports.
