Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed 'will fight and we will win' as he addressed the nation on Tuesday, after the anticipated ground incursion into southern Lebanon began.

"We are in the midst of a campaign against Iran's axis of evil. I said yesterday that these are days of great achievements and great challenges. Great achievements because we thwarted [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah and his top command and Hezbollah's plan to occupy the Galilee. We are determined to return our residents in the north safely to their homes," he said.

"But on the other hand, there are also big challenges. What I ask of you is two things: One - to strictly obey the directives of the Home Front Command, it saves lives. And second - to stand together. We will stand firm together in the trying days ahead. Together we will stand, together we will fight and together we will win," he concluded.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed 'limited and targeted' raids on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon were being carried out. Airstrikes on the region also continued, with the Lebanese Health Ministry reporting over 1,100 deaths and more than 6,300 injuries in total since they began a week ago. Nasrallah was killed in an airstrike on Beirut on Friday.

Tensions have been heightened following mass pager and handheld radio explosions last month, which Hezbollah blamed on Israel although the IDF did not comment. Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in cross-border strikes since the Israel-Hamas war began in Gaza.
