Description

Israeli tanks and soldiers were seen along the border with Lebanon on Sunday, ahead of an anticipated ground incursion.

Footage captured at the Lebanese-Israeli border shows Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) tanks and servicemen.

The Israeli military described its operations as 'limited, localised and targeted,' claiming they would neutralise Hezbollah's capabilities near the border.

Countries including the UAE, Qatar, and Japan called for an immediate ceasefire and expressed concerns about an escalation.

Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati described the current situation as one of the most dangerous in the history of the nation, appealing to the United Nations for humanitarian assistance for the displaced civilians affected by the ongoing attacks.

The UN's humanitarian co-ordinator for Lebanon announced a $426 million emergency aid appeal.

IIsrael announced the start of the latest campaign of airstrikes on Hezbollah positions, dubbed 'Operation Northern Arrows', on September 23. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that these attacks had resulted in more than 1,800 deaths and left over 9,000 injured at the time of publication.

On Saturday, Hezbollah confirmed reports that its Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah had died following an Israeli airstrike on Beirut on Friday. In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Nasrallah's death 'settled the account' with a 'mass murderer'.

Tensions between the sides escalated in mid-September after a series of explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah left dozens dead and thousands injured.

Hezbollah responded by launching hundreds of rockets into northern Israel. Hezbollah and Israeli forces have traded cross-border strikes since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
