Description

Eight people were reported killed and 21 injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the southern Lebanon town of Sarafand on Wednesday.

Footage shows a destroyed building, ambulance crews and machinery clearing rubble.

"Every day, we witness scores of crimes and hundreds of offensives carried out against civilians," alleged local mayor, Ali Haider Khalifeh. "This three-story building hosts three families."

"A father with his two sons lived in it as well as 21 people, mostly women and children. They hit a residential district," he claimed.

While Israel has not commented on the specific strikes, its military stated that “over the past day, the forces of Division 146 continued their activity in the area of southern Lebanon, locating weapons and attacking dozens of terrorist targets, including anti-tank launching positions and military buildings. Air force aircraft identified and attacked Hezbollah terrorist units."

"The forces of the 91st Division continue to destroy shafts, locate weapons, and eliminate terrorists. During the last day, the forces located anti-aircraft missiles and maps that include firing lines for the territory of the country," the IDF added.

Israel has conducted a ground incursion into parts of southern Lebanon, as well as an ongoing campaign of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets over the past month. Lebanon's Ministry of Health stated that 2,792 have been killed and over 12,700 injured at time of publication.

The current escalation between Israel and Hezbollah began last month with explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah, which killed dozens and injured thousands. The sides have exchanged cross-border strikes since the outbreak of the 2023 Gaza war.
