Strong winds and heavy rains were registered in the Quang Ninh province as Typhoon Yagi - dubbed a 'super typhoon' - moved from China and hit the northeastern Vietnam's coast on Saturday morning.

According to media reports, at least one person died due to a tree fall as well as dozens were reported missing. Approximately 50,000 people were reportedly evacuated from the coastal regions.

Indo-Pacific Tropical Cyclone Warning Center reported that the Yagi typhoon affected the Hai Phong and Quang Ninh provinces with winds of approximately 203 kilometres per hour (126 miles per hour).

Following the disaster, four airports of temporarily stopped the flights, according to media reports. Vietnamese authorities reportedly announced closure of schools in 12 regions, including Hanoi.

Earlier this week, the Yagi typhoon hit the Philippines and Chinese Hainan Island. According to media reports, at least two people in Hainan as well as 13 in northern Philippines died.
