Description

Severe flooding in India caused at least 60 deaths, following monsoon rains and overflowing rivers, with thousands forced to evacuate to emergency relief camps across the affected regions.

Footage recorded in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday shows submerged residential areas and extensive flood damage. Locals are seen navigating through floodwaters with their pets and personal belongings, assisted by fire services workers and aid trucks.

"People have been stuck in floodwaters for the last 3 days [...] Rescuers have not even reached that area yet. If someone goes there and distributes food and water, it would be really helpful for the people over there," one local said.

"The water is reaching my neck. Inside my house, everything is damaged, all my household things, washing machine, fridge, and everything. If people don't get help, they will die," added a second.

It comes after heavy rainfall, along with the overflowing Budameru Canal and Krishna River, hit India’s southern states, notably Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

According to local reports, the Indian Air Force and Navy deployed five helicopters and 228 boats to assist with rescue operations, with 26 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 21 teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in action. The NDRF team, alongside central forces and district officials, has supplied food, drinking water, and other essentials to flood-affected locals using the helicopters.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu (CBN) of Andhra Pradesh pledged to speed up relief operations, while Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced a financial aid package.
