Description

The preliminary hearings for Gisella Dahiana Madrid, the nurse accused of negligence in the death of soccer legend Diego Maradona, resumed on Monday in San Isidro, Buenos Aires province.

Although a date was anticipated for the start of the jury trial against Madrid, who is the sole individual among eight alleged to be involved in Maradona's death, the jury opted to postpone this decision. A new hearing is scheduled for next Monday.

The investigation was initiated at the behest of Maradona’s family, who raised allegations of negligence against his medical team shortly after his passing.

During the latest hearing, several notable figures were present, including Diego Maradona's daughter, Jana Maradona, and his ex-wife, Veronica Ojeda, as captured in footage from the proceedings.

Rodolfo Baque, Madrid's lawyer, attended the hearing and vehemently defended her, asserting, ‘they accuse her of killing Maradona, no more and no less, of killing God.’

He further claimed that the defence would demonstrate there were no violations or irregularities in Maradona's treatment.

On the other hand, Fernando Burlando, representing Maradona’s daughters, Dalma and Gianinna, expressed his belief in the collective responsibility of the medical team, stating, he has no ‘doubt that there is a group, a medical team that is responsible for Diego's death, for Diego's murder.’

Previously, the court upheld a denial of a request by Madrid’s defence for a stay of proceedings.

Diego Maradona, who famously led Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup, succumbed to acute heart failure complicated by pulmonary edema at the age of 60, just two weeks after undergoing brain surgery.
