Baghdad hosts the annual Arab League summit on Saturday, May 17, bringing together heads of state and top officials from across the Arab world. This is the first Arab League summit in Iraq since 2012 and the first since the defeat of ISIS in the region. Leaders are expected to discuss political, economic and security issues, including regional stability and reconstruction efforts. New Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani is expected to attend. It comes as Israel's war on Gaza continues, and Iran and the US engage in talks. The event will also include the fifth session of the Development Summit, focusing on economic co-operation and sustainable growth.
