Pope Leo XIV talks to the media for the first time after his historic election as the first North American pontiff, on Monday, May 12.
Robert Francis Prevost, 69, was chosen last Thursday as the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church, taking the papal name Leo XIV, following two days of voting.
He becomes the first cardinal from the US to ascend to the papacy, and spent decades doing missionary work in Peru.
