The Easter Vigil Mass opens at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on Saturday, April 19.
Holy Saturday, also called Easter Vigil, is the first official celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Holy Week began the Palm Sunday services in St. Peter's Square.
Despite his improved health, Pope Francis will not lead Easter events, and has appointed cardinals to lead Holy Week liturgies.
