European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa hold a joint press conference in Brussels on Thursday, March 20, following the first day of the European Council meeting.

The two-day summit focuses on military aid for Ukraine, particularly in light of the latest phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, as well as defence spending and economic competition.

Von der Leyen's ReArm Europe plan has proposed investing up to €800 billion in defence for what she has called an 'era of rearmament'.
