SpaceX launches its eighth test flight of its reusable heavy rocket Starship launch vehicle from Boca Chica on Thursday, March 6.
It is the third attempt at this particular launch, following two cancellations this week. The launch countdown was halted at the 40-second mark due to multiple issues, including an undisclosed problem with the Super Heavy booster.
Previous missions have seen SpaceX capture the reusable 'booster' section in metal 'chopsticks' twice. On the seventh flight, the Starship itself exploded due to a propellant leak. The upcoming flight will follow the same suborbital trajectory as previous missions.
Starship is a two-stage vehicle, with the 'ship' as the upper part and a booster called the 'Super Heavy'.
In the near future, Starship is set to be used for long-haul trips to the Moon and Mars.
