Intuitive Machines attempts a Moon landing with its Athena lunar lander on Thursday, March 6. The mission carries a range of NASA technology demonstrations and science investigations.
It comes just days after the Firefly lander achieved the first private landing on the Moon's surface, on March 2.
The Athena aims to touch down at Mons Mouton, a plateau near the Moon’s South Pole, as part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative and the broader Artemis campaign to establish a sustained lunar presence.
Launched last week aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, the IM-2 mission carries NASA technology designed to analyse lunar soil for potential resources, such as oxygen and fuel, that could support future human exploration.
