High-level statements resume at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan on Tuesday, November 19.
World leaders and representatives from nearly 200 countries are meeting to discuss climate finance and strategies to meet the 1.5°C global temperature target.
According to reports, week one concluded with divisions between wealthier and developing nations over existing commitments, such as the 1.3 trillion dollars in annual climate finance, as well as emissions and disaster adaptation.
The event already saw Argentina withdrawing its delegation, while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged G20 nations, responsible for three-quarters of global emissions, to lead by example and reach a compromise.
The conference, attended by around 50,000 participants, will continue until November 22.
