NATO Secretary General Rutte talks to press ahead of Defence Ministers meeting in Brussels

Mark Rutte, the new NATO secretary general, holds a press conference at alliance HQ in Brussels ahead of the two-day Defence Ministers meeting, on Monday, October 16.

It represents Rutte's first major NATO engagement since taking over from Jens Stoltenberg on October 1. The discussions are expected to focus on continued support for Ukraine in the ongoing conflict with Russia.

It comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky toured a number of European capitals with his 'Victory Plan'. Friday's meeting in Ramstein with Joe Biden was postponed after the president cancelled his trip due to Hurricane Milton.
