NASA's SpaceX Crew-12 mission undocks from the International Space Station on Wednesday, October 7, beginning the journey back to Earth after nearly eight months in orbit.

Crew-12 includes NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev. The four launched aboard SpaceX's Crew Dragon in February and joined Expeditions 74 and 75 aboard the orbiting laboratory.

During their mission, the crew contributed to hundreds of experiments, including research into cancer treatments, quantum technologies, bone regeneration, antibiotic-resistant bacteria and producing intravenous fluids in space.

The Dragon spacecraft is set to splash down off the coast of California on Thursday, October 8, ending the Crew-12 mission.
