Live from Hong Kong on Thursday, October 1, where the National Day fireworks display takes place over Victoria Harbour to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The HK$18 million show lasts 23 minutes, launching 31,888 pyrotechnic shells from nine firing points on three barges and six floating pontoons. Up to 1.3 million visitors from mainland China are expected to arrive during the Golden Week holiday, a seven-day break.
The holiday has been celebrated in Hong Kong since the 1997 handover from British rule, as well as in neighbouring Macau, where large-scale festivities are also underway.
