NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Sophie Adenot conduct a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS) on Tuesday, September 1.

During US Spacewalk 99, the astronauts will replace a retroreflector on the forward port of the station's Harmony module. The device will support spacecraft navigation during future rendezvous and docking operations.

Meir and Adenot will then carry out several maintenance tasks, including installing jumper cables for the station's data-relay systems, preparing the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer's radiator for future maintenance and replacing a high-definition camera on the station's truss.

The six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk will be Meir's seventh and Adenot's third.

Meir will move into third place among NASA's women astronauts for total spacewalks, behind Peggy Whitson with 10 and Suni Williams with nine.
