The event has already seen a Chinese robot beat Usain Bolt's 100m world record, with its 9.32 seconds smashing the sprinter's 9.58-second time.

It takes place from August 22-26 in the Chinese capital, with teams and developers putting their robots through a series of challenges designed to test their abilities in real-world and sporting scenarios.

Organizers say the games are designed not only as a sporting spectacle, but also as a platform to showcase advances in humanoid robotics and artificial intelligence.
