Live with Nasa's special coverage of the total solar eclipse, as it sweeps across parts of Europe and the North Atlantic on Wednesday, August 12.

The totality will be visible in parts of Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain and a small corner of Portugal. The rare and spectacular astronomical event occurs when the Moon completely obscures the Sun.

It marks a rare opportunity for millions to witness a total solar eclipse in Europe - last visible across the continent in August 1999.

The celestial event will also be partly visible in other European countries, as well as in Canada, the United States - from Alaska to North Carolina - and northwestern Africa.
