
Russian President Vladimir Putin hosts an official reception for representatives of ASEAN member states and holds bilateral meetings in Kazan on Wednesday, June 17, as the landmark Russia–ASEAN Summit kicks off.
The summit is being held to mark the 35th anniversary of dialogue relations between Russia and ASEAN. The Philippines currently holds the rotating ASEAN chairmanship.
The agenda is expected to focus on the current state and future development of the Russia–ASEAN strategic partnership, as well as regional and international issues. Trade turnover between Russia and ASEAN countries exceeds $22 billion.
Representatives of ASEAN member states from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Timor-Leste are expected to take part in the summit. Participants include Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah and a number of ASEAN heads of government.
The Russian delegation includes Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Presidential Aides Maxim Oreshkin and Yuri Ushakov, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, RDIF CEO Kirill Dmitriev and Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev.
