Polls close as manual vote count begins in Peru presidential runoff

Live from Lima as polling stations close across Peru on Sunday, June 7, bringing voting to an end the presidential runoff between Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sánchez.

The runoff followed the first round of voting on April 12, after no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote.

More than 27 million Peruvians are eligible to vote in the election. A presidential term is five years, but political instability has seen eight presidents since 2016.

Preliminary results are expected to emerge throughout the evening as the manual vote count continues.
