Mexico City marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic 'Mexican Wave' on Saturday, June 6, with an ambitious Guinness World Record attempt along Paseo de la Reforma.
As part of the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, thousands of participants are expected to take part in the 'Ola Chilanga', creating a massive synchronised wave stretching from Reforma Avenue to the Glorieta del Caballito in a bid to set the record for the largest human wave ever performed.
The wave first captured global attention during the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico and has since become one of the most recognisable traditions in sports, symbolising celebration, unity, and collective fan spirit around the world.
