Presidential candidate Ivan Cepeda addresses supporters after preliminary results in Colombia’s presidential election in Bogota on Sunday, May 31.
Cepeda, a three-term senator and candidate for the ruling Historical Pact coalition, campaigned on continuing President Gustavo Petro’s reform agenda, including social welfare expansion and implementation of the country’s peace accords.
Petro himself is constitutionally barred from seeking re-election. More than 41 million Colombians were eligible to vote in the election, which will determine who will serve a four-year presidential term.
