Reaction comes from Fujimori campaign headquarters following exit polls in the general election in Lima on Sunday, April 12.
Keiko Fujimori of Fuerza Popular is leading Peru’s presidential race according to two exit polls released by Ipsos and Datum; however, the firms diverge on second place, with Ipsos placing Roberto Sanchez of Juntos por el Peru behind her, while Datum shows Rafael Lopez Aliaga of Renovacion Popular as the runner-up.
Fujimori, who is running for the presidency for the fourth time, is among the leading contenders alongside Lima's former mayor Rafael Lopez Aliaga and Cesar Acuna of 'Alianza para el Progreso'.
There are more than 25 million eligible voters and 35 people running for president. Voting is mandatory for citizens aged 18 to 70.
If no presidential candidate secures more than 50% of the valid votes, the process will move to a runoff between the top two in June.
A presidential term is five years, but political instability has seen eight presidents since 2016.
