Live from Oruro Carnival in Bolivia on Saturday, February 14, as thousands of performers parade from dawn after midnight, paying homage to the Virgen del Socavón (Virgin of the Mines), a figure blending elements of Catholicism with indigenous Andean beliefs.
A massive procession of performers in elaborate costumes - representing figures including devils and Incas - moves to the rhythms of the Diablada, Morenada, and Caporales, culminating at the Socavón Sanctuary.
One of the most spectacular and deeply rooted cultural celebrations in Latin America, the Oruro Carnival - recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity - lasts for 10 days.
