Live from Miraflores after explosions reported near military sites in Caracas

Live from Miraflores, following reported multiple explosions and low-flying aircraft overhead in the early hours of the morning in Caracas, on Saturday, January 3.

At least seven loud blasts were heard around 2 am local time, and plumes of smoke were seen rising over parts of the city, particularly in the southern area close to Fort Tiuna and near La Carlota Air Base, both major military installations in Caracas.

Trump claimed the United States carried out large-scale military strikes in Venezuela and stated that Maduro and his spouse are in US custody. Venezuelan authorities reported explosions and military activity in Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira and announced emergency measures.

The reported explosions follow months of a US-led military campaign called 'Operation Southern Spear', directed by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
