
Live from the Swiss Alpine resort of Crans-Montana on Friday, January 2, following a deadly explosion and fire at the Le Constellation bar during New Year celebrations.
The explosion and subsequent blaze occurred while more than 100 people were reportedly inside the bar. Authorities said they were first alerted at around 01:30 local time, after reports of heavy smoke.
The latest information from the Swiss authorities suggested the 'majority' of the 100 reported hurt were 'seriously injured' - with 'dozens' dead. Officials said foreign tourists were among the victims.
A large-scale rescue operation was launched, involving around 10 helicopters and 40 ambulances, while access to the surrounding area was restricted. A temporary no-fly zone was imposed over Crans-Montana, and cantonal authorities declared a state of emergency.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined. An investigation is underway to establish what triggered the blast.
