Trump and Zelensky meet at Mar-a-Lago

US President Donald Trump meets Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday, December 28, for talks expected to centre on the US-brokered peace initiative to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Discussions are also expected to cover separate proposals related to US security guarantees for Ukraine. A senior Russian official has previously described the US plan as 'radically different' from the framework Moscow has been negotiating with Washington.

Zelensky recently said he would be prepared to submit his 20-point peace proposal to a national referendum, provided Russia agrees to a 60-day ceasefire to allow Ukraine to organise and conduct the vote.

Sunday’s talks mark the sixth meeting between Trump and Zelensky since Trump returned to office in January. Their first encounter during Trump’s second term was overshadowed by a public dispute that ended with Zelensky leaving the venue early.
