The Christmas Eve service is one of the new pontiff's most-anticipated events, as he marks the end of his first year leading the Catholic Church.
Thousands of pilgrims from around the world are expected to attend. Leo XIV, the first US pontiff but with ties to Latin America, particularly Peru through his earlier work, was elected in May following the death of Pope Francis.
