Live from Foz do Iguacu as presidents and heads of delegation from Mercosur member and associate countries take part in the plenary session of the bloc’s presidential summit on Saturday, December 20.
The meeting brings together leaders from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, along with representatives from associated states, to discuss regional integration, political coordination, and Mercosur’s external relations.
The summit takes place ahead of the next steps in the long-awaited Mercosur–EU trade agreement, which was initially expected to be signed in 2025. The process was delayed after the European Union failed to reach a consensus, with several member states, including France and Italy, raising objections. Negotiated over 26 years, the agreement is now expected to be signed on January 12 in Paraguay.
