    Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado holds a press conference with Norwegian Prime MInister Jonas Gahr Store at the Government Guest House in Oslo on Thursday, December 11.

    Machado was not present for the awards ceremony itself on Wednesday, with her daughter Ana Corina Sosa receiving it on her behalf. The opposition leader appeared on a hotel balcony last night after reportedly travelling by boat to Curacao before a private plane to Norway.

    The award was welcomed in Western Europe, but saw an intense backlash around the Global South for her previous support for US military intervention in Venezuela.
