Live from the Chilean capital as voting takes place nationwide in Chile's presidential run-off election on Sunday, December 14.
In the first round, former Labour Minister and Unidad por Chile candidate Jeannette Jara narrowly led with 27 per cent of the vote, ahead of Republican Party candidate Jose Antonio Kast on 24 per cent. Neither candidate reached the 50 per cent threshold required for an outright victory.
The election brings President Gabriel Boric’s term to a close, as the constitution bars immediate re-election, though presidents may serve unlimited non-consecutive terms.
The winner of the run-off will assume office on March 11, 2026.
