Live from La Paz as Bolivians celebrate following the preliminary results from their country’s presidential runoff, on Sunday, October 19.
Nearly eight million voters chose between Senator Rodrigo Paz Pereira of the Christian Democratic Party, who led the first round in August with about 32%, and right-wing former president Jorge ‘Tuto’ Quiroga, who came second with 27%.
The runoff follows the August 17 vote, which brought an end to nearly two decades of dominance by the leftist Movement Toward Socialism (MAS).
With no candidate achieving an outright majority, Bolivians are now taking part in the country’s first presidential runoff since its return to democracy in 1982.
