NASA and SpaceX launch Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus CRS-23 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) from Cape Canaveral, on Sunday, September 14.
The Cygnus XL, flying for the first time, rides a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with more than 11,000 pounds of science experiments, supplies, and hardware for the ISS. Astronauts are scheduled to capture the spacecraft using the Canadarm2 on Wednesday, September 17, before attaching it to the Unity module for unloading.
The larger, upgraded Cygnus XL is built to carry more cargo than previous models. It will remain docked at the station until March, when it departs and burns up in Earth’s atmosphere.
